Synthetic Biology has the potential to be very cool and we have the ability to enter into really uncharted territory, but i think we can do it. If we will not be given regular acess to labs i think we could rebel and build our own lab with DIY equipment. Heck we would be working on improving our ability to Build stuff. In order to do this i think we will need to recruit some SEG and SOI students in order to develop the capability to build and engineer lab equipment. By having acess to such lab equipment we can make the practice of Biology a recreational activity!
Stuff we needto build:
- DIY PCR
- DIY Centrifuge
- DIY Gel Electrophosis machine
- Microscope(Foldscope) , i have a microscope tho
- Aseptic portable laboratory box / BSL 0.5 lab
- UV lights?
- Microfluidics device(Bonus) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKR5nrJtj08!
- We can use syringe instead of pipettes
- Aquire micropipettes
- Basic know how of how to manipulate electronics Arduino?
- 3D printing capability, so we could print organs and protein models for fun?
- The ability to manipulate liquids ?
- Incubator?
- Shaker
Our bacteria signaling system is a start!
But we could also work on developing bacteria that will allow other people to easily manipulate or play with biology. Or conduct cloning iam thinking of a bacteria that takes an input to and gives out a preprogrammed output , say start program 1? but idk
